TEDDY BEARS TEA PARTY

25/09/2014

Looking for something fun to do with the kiddos on a wet and rainy, autumnal afternoon? Why not organise a teddy bears tea party? It’s fun, free and best of all takes very little planning or organisation. Now, thats my kinda party!

All you gotta do is gather together some all important supplies – think cushions and blankets to sit on, some tasty treats to snack on and then ask your wee one to invite some of their teddy bear mates. The more playful and interactive you make the activity, the more they’ll get a kick out of it all!

Here’s mine making her formal invites 😉

Oh and don’t forget the TEA! Proper brew for you and a little tea set or mini jug and cup for pouring pretend tea or water for the little ones (but only if you’re not too bothered about mopping up a few spillages here and there!) Mine is perfectly pleased with a small pot of water and a tea cup as she loves to practice her pouring skills  – good for developing fine motor skills and of course for encouraging them to drink more water! Everyones a winner 🙂

Next set up a cosy scene either on the floor or at the table – whatever suits you and your space best. We usually end up on the floor with loads of blankets and cushions as we’ve got plenty of floor space but hardly any furniture – whatever works! If you have the time, its a ridiculously cute idea to go ahead and set up the party without your little one’s help and then surprise them. I did this the first time we ever played teddy bears tea parties and the look on Bou’s face was priceless!

Bring along a selection of real snacks or play snacks, again anything goes – we like a combination of both. Our favourite healthy tea nibbles almost aways consist of fresh fruit, some milk and of course Bou’s favourite ORGANIX Gingerbread Biscuit men… nom nom nom… But little sandwiches or crisps (Pom Bears are perfect!) also make a welcome addition to traditional tea party fare.

Oh and don’t forget the play food – teddy bears get hungry too ya’know!

Invite your little ones to set an informal table setting or offer to help serve tea and nibbles to all the guests – younger ones will probably need a little more interaction from you on this one but older kids will be happy to play away on their own.

As you can see, we like this game a lot – can’t you tell from all the different outfit changes?! It’s one of our favourite afternoon activities as I can supervise the playtime but also quietly get on with anything else I need to do like catching up on emails, reading or doing a little bit of blogging.

For a little extra inexpensive fun, why not blow up some balloons to chase around the room or play some music and get your little one dancing or singing along to their favourite rhymes and songs. Altogether now – “Polly put the kettle on!”

This is also the ideal setting to play the TOCA BOCCA Tea Party App (£1.99) where you get to invite your friends to a tea party around your iPad! Choose a tablecloth, pick out favourite drinks and snacks, light some candles and turn on the radio! Little ones can play on their own, with friends or simply invite cuddly companions for some role play teatime fun. Perfect!
