HOW DO FLOWERS GROW?

To inform and inspire our learning about flowers this week we’re using USBORNE’S, HOW DO FLOWERS GROW? – an inspiring and delightful board book that makes an ideal introduction for little ones who want to learn all about planting and growing.
To compliment our reading as well as follow on from our nature study learning, I set up some gardening tools and equipment so we could do a bit of dramatic play. Where we chatted about the planting process and what kinds of things plants and flowers need to help them grow.
We absolutely loved the lift the flaps question and answers format of Usborne’s, How do flowers grow? which makes a really fun and interactive way for kids to get to grips with the basics of beginners botany – ideal for inquisitive little hands as well as minds!
The charming, detailed illustrations will likewise encourage them to explore some of those all-important questions like, Why do leaves fall? Where do seeds come from? and Why do plants have flowers? Infact I found myself learning a lots along the way too!
This beautiful book provides an exciting and interesting opportunity to engage your little one’s natural curiosity in exploring nature and early science concepts. Plus reading and learning all about the lifecycle of plants is perfect for building on developing a further interest in gardening and growing!
Now we’ve got the basics down, we’re ready to get our hands dirty and have a go at raising some seedlings from scratch. Next up we will be planting our very own indoor garden… Watch this space!
