DINOBLOCK

01/07/2015

As big, big fans of hip husband and wife design duo, PESKIMO we were asked if we would like to review their latest book, DINOBLOCK… and of course the answer had to be, hells yeah!  Dinoblock is another awesome offering from the Peskimo and Christopher Franceschelli dream team that follows hot on the heels of both their previous smash-hit phenomenas, Alphablock and Countablock.

Suitable for children ages 1 through 4, Dinoblock introduces over 20 different dinosaurs to your little one including the phonetic pronunciations so they can learn all their names as well as each unique characteristic. There is something super magical about dinosaurs that really captures the imagination of children, which is what makes this book such a delight.

My daughter like most other kiddos her age is pretty loco over dinosaurs, in fact one of her first words was ‘Triceratops’. Seriously, I kid you not! So it’s brilliant to find a book that allows little ones to explore and immerse themselves in this prehistoric wonder-world, learning interesting facts along the way about these long-extinct creatures through their past and our present environment.

The format follows on with a simillar approach to both the Alphablock and Countablock books, featuring die cut silhouettes that create a peek-through guessing game to reveal a new dinosaur to discover with each turn of the page.

Over time we have managed to build up quite a collection of plastic dino figurines which worked perfectly alongside the book for some dramatic dino-play as well as making for a fun memory-recall & matching game.

The final gatefold pull-out reveals the dinosaur skeletons of each beast featured in the book just as you might find them today in a museum with every species clearly labelled to act as further prompts for pint-sized paleontologists.

I really loved the learning aspect of the book, as the child gets to interact with the physicality of the pages making it perfect for the homeschool or classroom environment. However this nice chunky board book will likewise be appreciated by the design-savvy parent who likes a clever and well illustrated book that will totally look the business atop an open book shelf.

So, if your little one, like mine is a mini dinosaur enthusiast then Dinoblock is without a doubt the book for them. Seriously guys, it’s ROAR-SOME!
